What size should a walk-in shower be?
A walk-in shower needs at least a 36 by 36 inch interior to be usable, 36 by 60 inches to be comfortable, and roughly 42 by 60 inches or more before a bench and a genuinely open entry both work. Depth matters more than width for keeping water in: the further the showerhead sits from the opening, the drier your bathroom floor stays.
Fixed panel, swinging door or no glass at all?
Choose a fixed panel when the shower is long enough to put distance between the head and the opening, a door when the shower is small or steam matters, and an open entry only in a large wet room where the whole floor drains correctly. The deciding factor is almost always the shower's depth, not its style.

How shower waterproofing actually works
Tile and grout are not waterproof — water passes through them. What keeps a shower dry is a continuous barrier installed behind the tile, bonded to the substrate, wrapped through every corner and connected properly to the drain. If that barrier is interrupted anywhere, the shower will eventually leak there.
Seven signs your shower is leaking behind the tile
The reliable warning signs are loose or hollow-sounding tile low on the wall, a persistently damp corner, soft or discolored flooring just outside the enclosure, a stain on the ceiling below, musty smell with no visible mold, efflorescence on grout, and a curb that stays wet long after the shower is off. Most indicate the barrier behind the tile has been breached, not that the grout needs attention.

What a curbless shower actually requires
A curbless shower requires the shower floor to sit below the surrounding floor level, which is achieved by recessing the structure, raising the bathroom floor, or lowering a slab. It also requires a drain and slope arrangement that moves water faster than the showerhead delivers it, because there is no curb doing containment work.
Shower features worth building in for the long term
The features that matter most are invisible: solid blocking in every wall, a wide entry with no swinging door, a floor with real slip resistance, and a hand shower alongside the fixed head. Grab bars and seats can be added later if the blocking is there — but blocking cannot be added later without opening the wall.

How long a shower remodel takes, stage by stage
A shower rebuild moves through demolition, rough-in, substrate, waterproofing, flood testing, tile setting, grouting and glass. Several of those stages involve cure or set times that cannot be shortened without weakening the assembly, which is why an honest schedule includes waiting as a scheduled activity rather than as slippage.
How to compare shower estimates fairly
Two shower estimates are only comparable when both name the waterproofing system, the drain type, the substrate, the tile allowance, who supplies the glass, and what happens if hidden damage is found. A lower number usually reflects a smaller scope or an unstated assumption, not a better deal.
